Workforce Initiative Highlight | Kansas City Veteran Coalition

by Mary Rooney | Jan 08, 2019

The KC region has a rich military history. Fort Leavenworth, known as the Intellectual Center of the Army, has been in operation since 1882. Whiteman Air Force Base is home to the B-2 Stealth Bomber. Fort Leonard Wood provides educational training for a broad spectrum of engineering specialties across Army branches, and Fort Riley is home to the Big Red One. KC’s Veteran workforce offers businesses the ability to attract thousands of highly-skilled workers separating from significant military installations located within the region.

The Kansas City Veteran Coalition (KCVC) serves as a centralized hub for KC area corporations to capture highly trained and experienced Veterans transitioning out of the military. The KCVC mission is to bring these companies together to share best practices and resources to enhance hiring, mentoring and networking for our Veterans.

KCVC, with support from KC SmartPort, will partner directly with companies to identify candidates that fit the specific qualifications required. They will then work with the transition offices for all nearby military bases to educate candidates on the career opportunities and begin work as the conduit of candidates back to the client company direct.
